Description: This presentation includes a brief review of concrete chemistry, concrete deterioration and the main contributing factors that affect the longevity of a concrete structure. We will discuss some popular solutions for the preservation of concrete and identify the challenges and requirements for an effective coating system. With very little product quality and performance oversight in coatings industry we will look at the reliability of manufacturer’s product claims and identify appropriate sources of validation.

On immigrating to the United States in 1997, Rankin worked with Parker Paint covering the Pacific Northwest market, as Director of Channel Sales and Product Marketing. Acquired by the Comex Group in 2005, he transferred to Color Wheel Paint in Orlando where Rankin remained until 2011 as National Product Director. He then spent several years with Sto Corp. in Atlanta as Product Marketing Manager for their Coatings Division and has now been in his current role as Business Development Leader with MAPEI Corp since 2015. Rankin holds a BS in Psychology and a master’s degree in Business Administration from universities in New Zealand.
