Planiseal® CR1 waterproofing membrane – SCS Indoor Advantage Gold Certified

MAPEI’s Planiseal CR1 has been awarded SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification by SCS Global Services, an independent, ISO-accredited, third-party certification body, which employs testing by an industry-independent laboratory. “Contractors tell us that they love working with Planiseal CR1 because it is simple to use and non-hazardous,” explained Harold Hays, MAPEI’s Technical Services Manager for Waterproofing. “Now those results have been validated by an independent, third-party objective organization.”

“Unlike other cold-liquid-applied products on the market, Planiseal CR1 does not include asphalt, tar or solvents, which makes it safe to use even in occupied spaces. There is no concern with sparks or flames catching the Planiseal CR1 on fire because there are no fumes. This also means that the applicator does not have to wear a respirator,” Hays continued.

Planiseal CR1 is easily applied with no mixing, does not require a primer, will not shrink, and is VOC-compliant in virtually all municipalities. It is very low in odor, making it well suited for use in and around occupied spaces, and on horizontal as well as vertical applications. Not only is it rugged enough for exterior use on industrial applications including structural foundations, parking decks and bridges, Planiseal CR1 waterproofing can also be used on interior applications such as commercial and residential bathrooms and kitchens.

“Because Planiseal CR1 has only one formulation that can be used vertically on walls or horizontally on decks, there is no confusion with multiple grades as there is with some other cold-fluid-applied products on the market,” Hays said.

Planiseal CR1’s third-party certification for VOC compliance is another factor that sets it apart, especially when it comes to contributing to green-building rating systems.

“The SCS Indoor Advantage Gold certification is recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] and General Services Administration [GSA], and qualifies for many green-building rating systems, including LEED v4, the WELL Building Standard, BREEAM, Living Building Challenge and NAHB Green Building Standard, among others,” stated Brittany Storm, MAPEI’s Sustainability Manager. “It also conforms with CDPH Standard Method v1.2-2017 [CA 01350] for the school classroom, private office and single-family residence parameters, as well as SCAQMD Rule 1113 Architectural Coatings and Rule 1168 Adhesive and Sealants.”
