Premier resource for practicing structural engineers

Date/Time: June 18, 2025 12:00 pm Central

Engineered for higher loads, the new patent-pending HDUE™ holdown from Simpson Strong-Tie is ideal for meeting the design demands of today’s residential structures, such as multistory homes with more windows and reduced area for shearwalls. As a one-to-one replacement for the industry-leading HDU, the HDUE secures shearwalls, braced-wall panels, and other lateral-force-resisting applications in wood construction. Join us for an in-depth look at how this next-generation product was developed and how a breakthrough in an adjacent product line inspired the R&D team to leap forward in holdown design. Attendees will learn about the innovative features—angled fasteners, extruded seat, optimized hole patterns, overlapping backplate, and more—that set the HDUE apart for both performance and installation ease.

By the end of the session, engineers will have a better understanding of:

  • HDUE installation best practices and requirements
  • Load values and member size compatibility
  • Key design improvements and their structural advantage
