This presentation explores seismic deformation compatibility requirements for mass timber beam-to-column and column-to-column connections in accordance with IBC and ASCE 7 standards. We will examine how experimental testing and finite element analysis (FEA) can be used to validate performance, highlighting case studies and test results for various connector types. Attendees will gain insight into drift demands, the limitations of current code-based calculations, and the need for standardized testing protocols. Practical recommendations and proven solutions for achieving compliance and enhancing structural resilience in seismic zones will also be discussed.
