We are thrilled to announce that 2025 brings Atkinson-Noland’s 50th year in business! We celebrate and thank the wonderful people and projects that brought us to this significant accomplishment. We have much to be proud of as we reflect on our time from 1975 to the present and at projects from Angkor to Zuni and everywhere in between.
On July 1, 1975, Jim Noland and Richard (Hank) Atkinson incorporated our small business as a way for continuing their passion for research and education.
For our first 20 years, the company focused primarily on academic research, studying performance of concrete and masonry materials and structures. At the same time John Baur developed a structural engineering branch for designing new construction.
A series of National Science Foundation research projects beginning in the early 1980s established our expertise in diagnostic testing, nondestructive evaluation, and seismic strengthening. The firm capitalized on this experience beginning in the 1990s, shifting to consulting engineering.
The years have brought us thousands of projects and relationships throughout the United States and around the world. These days we are still involved with specialty design for new construction, but the majority of our work is on existing buildings, bridges, and structures of all types, with a stated emphasis on historic construction.
Our New York City office has thrived since its opening in 2012, and we have new office and laboratory space opening this year in Lafayette, Colorado, about 10 miles east of our long-term home on Spruce Street in Boulder.
We have had so many excellent employees and collaborators over the years and have countless people and organizations to thank for our continued success. We all are looking forward to innovations our future leadership is developing and expect the next 50 years to be just as gratifying.
Congratulations and thank you to all who have helped make ANA an industry leader!
