Concrete is used in nearly every structure built today for its strength, durability and economy. Concrete is economical, available everywhere, durable, and versatile. As demand for building construction continues to increase, it is likely the demand for concrete will also increase. Like all building products, however, concrete has a carbon footprint.

This presentation will discuss the top ten strategies to take advantage of concrete’s benefits while ensuring the lowest possible carbon footprint.

Lionel Lemay is Executive VP, Structures and Sustainability for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association (NRMCA). He leads a team of professionals to offer building owners and designers cost effective, durable and sustainable concrete building solutions through education, research and design assistance He has written many articles and books on concrete design and construction. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and Structural Engineer in the State of Illinois. He is also a LEED Accredited Professional. Mr. Lemay holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in civil engineering from McGill University in Montreal, Canada.

Brandon Wray, Director,
Building Innovation

Brandon Wray is the Director of Building Innovations for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association in California. In this role, Brandon promotes concrete and concrete technologies throughout the design community with a special focus on sustainability. Prior to joining the NRMCA, Brandon worked as a civil engineer for US Concrete where he assisted in developing, evaluating, and launching various concrete technologies throughout North America. Most recently, he was a design manager on the project management team at Clark Pacific, a world renowned precast concrete designer and manufacturer.
