Webinar Sponsored by MAPEI

This webinar will provide an introduction to Fiber-Reinforced Polymers used for the strengthening and repair of concrete and CMU structures. It will introduce the different types of systems available, highlighting the advantages of each type of system, fiber type, and installation process. Typical applications will be discussed, along with the limitations of FRP systems. Very basic engineering principals will be introduced, but due to time constraints will not be the focus of this presentation. Attendees can expect to gain an understanding of how and where FRP systems are used along with basic requirements in place for the consideration of FRP systems.

In this webinar, you will learn about the different options for joining steel to steel using flange clamping and box-bolting, as well as the calculations, testing, and failure analysis associated when joining steel to steel. These methods are used in construction applications where no drilling/tapping, welding or through-bolting is permitted.

This presentation includes a brief review of concrete chemistry, concrete deterioration and the main contributing factors that affect the longevity of a concrete structure. We will discuss some popular solutions for the preservation of concrete and identify the challenges and requirements for an effective coating system. With very little product quality and performance oversight in coatings industry we will look at the reliability of manufacturer’s product claims and identify appropriate sources of validation.

Webinar Sponsored by APA – The Engineered Wood Association

This webinar includes an overview of high wind forces, the importance of a continuous load path, and how good design and construction practices can improve the storm resistance of wood-framed buildings. Learn more about APA’s above-code recommendations for wind-resistant construction, as well as how attention to connection details, understanding lateral load concepts, and recognizing common failure modes seen in storm damage assessments can help you cost-effectively design a safer building and reduce future storm damage.

Force Transfer Around Openings (FTAO) is a popular method of shear wall analysis for wood-framed buildings. The use of FTAO analysis varies because published design examples typically assume the wall is symmetric around a single opening, and, until recently, this design method had not been tested. A joint research project between APA, University of British Columbia, and the USDA Forest Products Laboratory examined variations of shear walls with openings, resulting in the creation of rational design methodologies in accordance with the International Building Code. This session, presented by APA Engineered Wood Specialist Alese Ashuckian, will focus on asymmetric piers and multiple openings. The session will also provide an overview of APA’s free design tool, intended to help engineers and code officials in the design and implementation of FTAO shear walls with up to three openings.

Webinar Sponsored by Strongwell

Pultruded FRP grating is an alternative to traditional metallic grates due to its lighter weight, strength, corrosion resistance, and other benefits. In this session, Strongwell Structural Engineers will outline how to select the optimal grating series for your application after explaining how the product is manufactured and offering the primary considerations for selecting pultruded FRP grating. In addition, case studies and test data will demonstrate the long-term performance of grating panels used in real-world applications, some for 40+ years.

Since the invention of pultrusion in the 1950s and the ongoing advancements in pultrusion technology ever since, pultruded composite structural materials have offered engineers numerous new design options vs. traditional materials. In this introductory session, you will learn the basics for designing with pultruded composites, as well as the key differentiators between pultruded composites and traditional structural materials. Stephen Browning, PE, and Greg Bond, PE, will discuss the pultrusion process and how it determines material properties, and then provide a brief overview of the Strongwell Design Manual.
