The SEI Bridge the Gap program provides small grant funding from the SEI Futures Fund for eligible local SEI Chapters to run innovative programs promoting student and professional member interaction to attract and retain students as life-long, active SEI members. Funds were granted this cycle for SEI Graduate Student Chapters at the University of Cincinnati, Oregon State University, and University of Texas, Arlington, and to professional SEI Chapters – East Central Florida, Illinois, and Lehigh Valley.

Raymond H. R. Tide, PE, Ph.D., former principal at Wiss Janney Elstner, died October 7, 2022, at the age of 83.

Tide worked as an AISC regional engineer before becoming manager of engineering for Paxton Vierling Steel and then joining WJE in 1982. He was widely recognized as an expert on collapses, material deterioration, fatigue, brittle fracture, welding, mill-rolling defects, fire exposure, and structural damage.

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has published Supplement No. 3 to AISI S100-16 (Reaffirmed 2020), North American Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members, 2022 Edition. The North American Specification harmonizes cold-formed steel design technology across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, allowing for faster introduction of new technologies as well as opening up the market for a variety of derivative products such as design aids and educational materials.
