Masonry

Cavity Wall Construction
Cavity wall masonry construction has come into its own in the last 40 years. The key to a good cavity wall design is to recognize that masonry is neither water resistant nor stable. Even new, freshly pointed brick masonry is porous to water. If properly designed and constructed, cavity walls can control water leakage and minimize thermal expansion, deterioration, mold growth and more.

Structural Design for the Fire Condition
The Role of the Design Professional. The collapse of the World Trade Center, and the subsequent engineering analysis of the structural behavior of these buildings in the fire condition, have led to a new appreciation of the respective roles of the fire protection and structural engineers in structural fire safety design.
