MMFX Steel Corporation announced that the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) has updated its Evaluation Report ESR-2107 to include two additional MMFX product lines — ChrōmX 4100 ASTM A1035 CM and ChrōmX 2100 ASTM A1035 CL high strength, corrosion resistant reinforcing steels. The report, which already included ChrōmX 9100 ASTM A1035 CS at its first issuance in 2013, provides design guidance in compliance with the code for using ChrōmX high strength reinforcing steels up to 100 ksi (690 MPa) in yield strength.
The ESR-2107 report, issued in accordance with ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria (AC) 429, has expanded over the years to allow the use of high strength ASTM A1035 Grade 100 (690) reinforcing steel, including in high seismic zones, in compliance with the 2015, 2012 and 2009 International Building Code® (IBC); the 2015, 2012 and 2009 International Residence Code; and the 2013 Abu Dhabi International Building Code. The report provides engineers and building officials an industry peer-reviewed guide on how to specify, approve and properly take advantage of the high strength benefits of ASTM A1035 CS, CM and CL reinforcing steels.

The high strength of ChrōmX allows designers to reduce steel and steel-related costs, such as fabrication, placement and logistics. Other savings beyond the reduction in steel include efficiencies in designs that thin and lighten mat foundations, shear walls, columns and beams, as examples, which further generate significant savings in concrete, construction time and usable square footage. Last, but not least, high strength designs support more sustainable and safer projects.
In addition to high strength, each uncoated ChrōmX product provides a unique level of corrosion protection that can extend service life and reduce maintenance costs. Designers can choose the ChrōmX grade that best matches the corrosion environment issues — high-level corrosion ChrōmX 9100, mid-level corrosion ChrōmX 4100, and low-level corrosion ChrōmX 2100.
